Does the
Skin Evidence for IOMA fit in my daily practice?
The Skin
Evidence for IOMA has been designed to be very user friendly and to
serve all the health care workers in the dermatologic, aesthetic and
cosmetic fields. Whether you are a dermatologist, aesthetic surgeon
or an advisor in cosmeceuticals, this tool is essential in your
daily practice as it will provide you with in depth data for a
better advice and follow up.
How reliable are the measurements?
The Skin
Evidence for IOMA is the result of very intensive technological
research, and has been used for several years by Key opinion leaders
in dermatology around the world.
All the data acquisitions have been extensively compared with the
whole range of existing tools and a highly significant correlation
has been observed. In clinical practice this device has been tested
by leading dermatologists and the correlation with skin treatments
has been objectivities in studies.
How quick is the data acquisition?
With the
provided training at the time of delivery of your Skin Evidence for
IOMA it will take only few minutes (usually 2 minutes) to collect,
analyze and store data of your patient. A full and comprehensive
report can be printed or electronically transferred to a colleague
or used in a database or patient report.
Can my staff do the work for me?
The acquisition by the Skin Evidence for IOMA has been
standardized to the extreme so that any trained staff member can provide
accurate and reproducible data. This system allows comparable data acquisition
by all staff members in multiple centers. Your staff can print reports and
compare results using the integrated statistics module, thus helping you gain
time and enabling you to treat more patients per day.
How do I know that I am always
measuring on the same spot?
Most physicians believe that only measuring on the exact
same spot can yield comparable results. The tests have shown that, when the skin
is divided in cosmetic units (ex: cheek, hand, neck….), the skin structure is
almost similar in the area within the unit. Therefore, 2 to 4 measurements in a
cosmetic unit are taken. The mean value with standard deviation is automatically
calculated and representative for the whole area. All mean values can be
compared with the mean values of subsequent measurements. In this regard,
comparing the mean values over a cosmetic unit is more reliable than comparing a
single value on the same spot. |

Can I easily asses the
evolution of a mole?
With the pigmentation module the
mole can be analyzed for its shape and color and subsequently stored for later
comparison. With a 3D analysis the pigment is converted in a color code, so the
detection of suspected moles by a lay person is only a matter of seconds. In
depth analysis is still possible with the more expert tools, measuring the color
change pixel by pixel. These analysis are strictly reserved to dermatologists.
How can
Skin Evidence for IOMA contribute to my clinical activities?
By showing your patient the
sub-clinical aging of their skin, a treatment can be started sooner. With a
follow up tool to monitor the improvement, you enhance patient compliance.
Proper evolution of hair removal or growth, the effect of cosmetic creams,
assessment of all kinds of peelings, lasers and flashlamps are just some of the
possible applications. With all the upcoming non ablative rejuvenation methods
it is virtually impossible to do without it.
This is the true
meaning of curative or preventive ‘evidence based medicine’ or
‘evidence based cosmetology’ in day to day dermatologic, aesthetic
or cosmetic activities.
Can I use
Skin Evidence for IOMA to adapt cosmetics to my patients needs ?
A better knowledge of the skin
properties inevitably leads to a custom built advice in the use of cosmetic
treatments. Only three measurements are needed to take all the important
features of the skin, then recorded in objective figures.
